Currently, the world is faced with many complicated and inter-disciplinary opportunities and challenges in political, economic, social and cultural fields, such as climate change and sustainable development, philanthropic finance and social innovation, women and youth leadership, family and cultural heritage. Experts and specialists in Eastern and Western world should work together to launch a series of consultation and work out innovation-oriented solutions.
On January 1, 2019 (local time in Hawaii), East - West Philanthropy Forum Youth Leaders Workshop & A Fruitful Visit to World Philanthropic Capitalism and American Philanthropic Innovation officially kicked off! Dr. Sun Suifang (granddaughter of Sun Yat-sen, Chairman of Sun Yat-sen Peace & Education Foundation) attended the Opening Lunch on the first day, and shared her observations with the workshop participants on the importance of such topics as the integration of Eastern and Western cultures, as well as the inheritance and innovation of Chinese traditional culture. The workshop participants Niu Ben (Chairman of Laoniu Brother & Sister Foundation), Wang Zuyao (great-grandson of Sun Yat-sen, Vice Chairman of Sun Yat-sen Peace & Education Foundation), Zhang Junting (Chairman of Rockcheck Philanthropic Foundation), Liu Xin (Chairman of SEE, President of Chongqing Center), Liu Qiuyan (Director of Heungkong Group, Secretary-General of Heungkong Charitable Foundation) (via phone), and the representative of Kawasaki Philanthropy Department, Heavy Industries, Ltd. Japan, made an exchange of views on the mission and responsibilities of youth philanthropists to identify and address social issues based on philanthropic innovation in the new era.

On the morning of January 2, the workshop participants, at East - West Center, expressed their opinions on "philanthropic innovation" in terms of children's education, youth leadership, climate change and ecological protection, and cultural heritage. Maya Soetoro-Ng (Innovation Mentor of East - West Philanthropy Forum • International Good Fortune Philanthropic Innovation Alliance, President Obama's sister, Co-founder of Harmony Seeds Program, Chairman of Obama Foundation), Charles Morrison (Former President of US East - West Center), Cole Wilbur (Former President of David & Lucile Packard Foundation, Honorary Director), Zhang Mei (Founder of WILDCHINA and NEWUGO, and so on attended the workshop, where they discussed with the participants and rendered suggestions with regard to institutional governance as well as the related mission and responsibilities.

On the afternoon of the same day, Philanthropic Capitalism and Philanthropic Innovation Workshop was held in the house of Mr. Fukutake Soichiro. For the first time, Mr. Fukutake Soichiro (Honorary Advisor, Former Chairman and CEO of Benesse Holdings, Director of Fuwu Finance Corporation - a philanthropic corporation in Japan) shared his ideas with the workshop participants (the youth philanthropists in China) on the concept and spirit of Philanthropic Capitalism.

During the dinner, East - West Philanthropy Forum • International Good Fortune Philanthropic Innovation Alliance was officially launched. Niu Ben (Chairman of Laoniu Brother & Sister Foundation, youth philanthropist in China) was invited to serve as Co-Chairman of International Good Fortune Philanthropic Innovation Alliance. Zhang Junting (Chairman of Rockcheck Philanthropic Foundation) and Liu Qiuyan (Director of Heungkong Group, Secretary-General of Heungkong Charitable Foundation) were invited to serve as Vice Chairman of International Good Fortune Philanthropic Innovation Alliance. Liu Xin (Chairman of SEE, President of Chongqing Center) was invited to serve as Partner of International Good Fortune Philanthropic Innovation Alliance. That night, a total of 15 innovation mentors and ambassadors across the world, such as Jin Yuxi (Founder of YUESAI Cosmetics, international authoritative philanthropist), Daun Ripert [CEO of Nature's Essence Innovative Accelerator - donated by Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of Steve Jobs (Founder of Apple)], Cole Wilbur (Former President of David & Lucile Packard Foundation, Honorary Director), Nainoa Thompson (world-famous navigator), Donna Tanou (Former Chairman of Foundation of Bank of Hawaii Corporation), Hank Rogers (Founder of Blue Planet Foundation), Wally Suha (Co-founder of Suha Foundation), and so on, launched the Opening Ceremony and delivered a congratulatory speech.

From January 3 to 5, the participants of East - West Philanthropy Forum Youth Leaders Workshop continued to carry out a series of innovative activities in such fields as technical innovation, space exploration, environmental protection, cultural heritage, and art Philanthropy under the guidance of global innovation mentors. They paid a visit to the sites of the following projects: Nature's Essence Innovative Accelerator [donated by Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of Steve Jobs (Founder of Apple)], the world's most advanced Marine Life Research Microscope [donated by Pierre Omidyar (Founder of eBay) and his wife], Hank Rogers Mars Survival Simulation Laboratory, and so on, where they made an in-depth exchange of views on Philanthropic Innovation, stimulate the spirit of Good Fortune, and facilitated the implementation of the related policies and strategies.
