China-Italy Philanthropy Forum

From Mach. 21 to 24, 2019, at the invitation of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Matarella, President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China paid a state visit to Italy, in the hope of recounting friendly exchanges, co-writing the new chapter of comprehensive cooperation, and drawing a blueprint for future development together.

In order to actively respond to the national “One Belt and One Road” initiative, strengthen non-governmental exchanges between the two countries, and promote the common development of philanthropy between the two nations, the "China-Italy Philanthropy Forum" jointly initiated by the three parties of the China Global Philanthropy Institute, the China Development Research Foundation and the ToChina Hub was formally established during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Italy.

On March 22, the East-West Leadership Summit of the China-Italy Philanthropy Forum with the theme "Innovation and Dialogue: Promoting China-Italy Philanthropy Cooperation & Cultivating Sustainable Social Capital" was successfully held at the Italian National Academy of Sciences. On March 23, witnessed by President Xi Jinping and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, president Wang Zhenyao of the CGPI, deputy secretary-general Fang Jin of the China Development Research Foundation, and Ouyang Qiao, head of the ToChina Hub formally signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the China-Italy Philanthropy Forum", and reached a consensus on jointly promoting the future cooperation in the field of philanthropy between China and Italy.

This memorandum is the only cooperation in philanthropy among the 19 cooperative projects contracted under the witness of the two heads, and is also the highest level of charitable exchange in the history of the two countries.

The China-Italy Philanthropy Forum has truly promoted the development of the highest dialogue and exchange platform for China-Italy philanthropists in the field of philanthropy and humanities. More than 30 authoritative representatives from the political, philanthropic, corporate, artistic and academic circles of China and Italy were invited to attend the forum to discuss cooperation opportunities and challenges in social innovations (talent training, technological innovation, and climate change), human welfare (children’s education, poverty eradication, medical and health), culture and art (culture, sports, art), etc. in the context of the “One Belt and One Road” initiative in the new era. The first China-Italy Philanthropy Forum was held in China on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy in 2020.
