On May 23, President Xi Jinping replied to the letters from students from China and the United States who participated in the "Sailing for Blue: China-US Youth Friendship Tour" activity, fully affirming the friendly exchanges between Chinese and American youth and placing high expectations on them. The event was jointly led by the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, the China-US Exchange Foundation, and the team of Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates and initiator of the Shenzhen International Foundation for Philanthropy (CGPI).

From late March to early April, 20 Chinese and American youth students boarded the "China-US Youth Friendship" research vessel in Hong Kong, sailed via Ningbo to Shanghai, and carried out marine exploration and cultural exchange activities together. The event responds to the initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping in November 2023 to "invite 50,000 American young people to China for exchange and study in five years". Taking marine scientific research and shared living as scenarios, it promotes mutual understanding and friendship between the youth of the two countries through collaboration.
