On September 1, 2017, on the occasion of the upcoming 2nd anniversary of China Global Philanthropy Institute, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the founding of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation China Office, Wang Zhenyao, President of China Global Philanthropy Institute and China Philanthropy Research Institute, described his connection with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Since 1990s, family charity has developed rapidly in America. Grant-making foundations have more than tripled over the past 20-plus years. Currently there are more than 100,000 family (private) foundations and more than 200,000 Donor-advised funds. Donor-advised fund allows donors to open an exclusive account, receive tax benefits and make recommendations on the use of funds and investment over time.
“The breakthrough growth of social donations in China began in 2008.” said Wang Zhenyao, Dean of China Global Philanthropy Institute and Dean of China Philanthropy Research Institute of Beijing Normal University.
In May 2015, it was the 10th anniversary of the School of Business-Xuanzang Road Gobi Challenge and the 120 km relay race was going on. As a volunteer, Li Junfeng was waiting for his son Xiao Zheng 20 kilometers from the starting point.
In four days and three nights, more than 2,500 people crossed an uninhabited area of 112 kilometers.Under the scorching sun, the endless desert sometimes looks desperate. However, after a day’s race, enjoying a bowl of hot soup in the camp will make one feel everything is so worthwhile and precious.
