Inauguration Ceremony of "China Global Philanthropy Institute", China's First of its Kind, Is Held at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on November 12
The China Global Philanthropy Institute (CGPI) was established at the initiative of five Chinese and American philanthropists, including Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Ray Dalio, Chief Investment Officer of Bridgewater Associates and Council Member of the Beijing Dali Charity Foundation; Niu Gensheng, Founder and Honorary Chairman of the Lao Niu Foundation; He Qiaonv, Chairwoman of the Qiaonv Foundation and Ye Qingjun, Honorary Chairman of the Zhejiang Dunhe Charitable Foundation.
CGPI will teach philanthropic knowledge in an internationalized, practice-based and innovative way, and innovatively integrate "academic instruction, practice guidance and visiting study". Through the CGPI Mentor Program, CGPI will establish professional teaching research systems such as "philanthropic organization management", "social enterprises and social innovation", "social services and social work", "family philanthropy and inheritance", "philanthropic fund raising" and "philanthropy and humanism", and build an application-oriented philanthropic education training and knowledge dissemination system focusing on training philanthropists and senior executives of philanthropic organizations, and based on social service certification education and mass education.
CGPI practices a system of president responsibility under the leadership of the Board of Directors, with Ma Weihua, former President of China Merchants Bank, as the first Chairman of Board and Professor Wang Zhenyao from Beijing Normal University as President.
Zou Ming, Vice Minister of Civil Affairs, said, educational training plays a fundamental and supporting role in, and has a continuous influence on philanthropic development as a main means of philanthropic talent training. The establishment and business development of CGPI will drive Chinese philanthropic sector to engage in the building of a community of broad interests, global economic governance and public product supply.
"By founding CGPI, we expect to support those who are willing to contribute their leadership skills, wisdom and rich resources, to eliminate inequity and create a world where all people can lead a healthy and fruitful life," said Bill Gates.
Shenzhen will pay more attention to the important role of education in promoting the sustained and healthy development of philanthropy, strongly support the construction of CGPI, work with related sides to build CGPI into a globally influential philanthropic talent training base, and make a greater contribution to the promotion of international philanthropic exchanges and cooperation and the innovative development of philanthropy in China and the world, said Xu Qin, Mayor of Shenzhen.
